The time has come for a new "school" year. The plan was to do some school all summer long so as to avoid getting back into the routine. However, we joined a recreation center and enjoyed spending most of our days at the pool. So come August, it was a bit difficult to get going.... for all of us :)
Here is my little first/second grader;)
And my little PreK guy...
And me, the teacher...
(taken by Elijah...not bad)
So, I decided that instead of trying to do an update every week about school, I would just try to do every month. A lot of what we do is school but to show off our projects and what the kids are learning I'd like to be sure I don't forget to document.
Our first month was a bit slow. We are all just getting used to going back on a pretty tight schedule. Also, all our "activities" started and that was a bit of an adjustment to keep our schedules straight!
This year we decided to use My Father's World. I had heard just great things about it, did a bunch of research and finally decided to just jump in. The curriculum is actually geared for 2-3rd grade, but the nice thing about MFW is that they create it so that you can teach all your kids together with one curriculum. You buy for your oldest and then incorporate the younger kids in. Since Ella was well passed the 1st grade set they had I chose to do the 2nd grade but spread it out over two years.
She'll be doing Bible, History, Art and Science with MFW and then we add in Math, Spelling, English/Grammar, Spanish, Sign Language, and Etiquette. Sounds like a lot huh? We'll have to see how this goes!
For Bible we will be studying all the names of Jesus. We start off learning the meaning of our own names and just focusing on the importance of names and how special we each are.
For History we will be studying America. We are starting with the Vikings... tried to post a little video here but it doesn't seem to want to work :(
We enjoyed a field trip to My Big Backyard because we heard we could "build" our own fairy house....that didn't end up being too exciting for my two but we had a great time anyway. We love this place!
Pretending to be caterpillars in a chrysalis, about to emerge into butterflies.
Washing the laundry.
Homeschooling is so fun!
